Why Webflow sites lose rankings and conversions
Webflow produces clean HTML and fast hosting, so its problems are rarely raw speed. They are the things the designer never sees: CMS collection pages that all share one title and description pattern, canonical tags left on the default .webflow.io domain after connecting a custom domain, and the Webflow interactions JavaScript (often 200–400 kB) shipped on pages with no animations.
Images are the next common issue. Webflow’s responsive image generation is excellent, but only when images are uploaded to the asset panel and not set as CSS backgrounds; background hero images skip srcset entirely and load the full-size original on phones. Rich text fields in CMS items also make it easy to publish posts with multiple H1s or none at all.
WebVitalist checks every CMS template you link to, measures the site on a mobile device and gives you fixes you can apply in the Designer or the project’s custom code settings.
Checks
What we check on Webflow
On top of the standard technical, performance, accessibility and copy checks, the report looks for the problems specific to Webflow.
- 01 Collection page title and meta description fields left blank or on one template pattern
- 02 Canonical tag pointing at the .webflow.io staging domain or missing on CMS pages
- 03 Interactions (webflow.js) payload and unused animation code on static pages
- 04 Background images used as heroes instead of responsive <img> with srcset
- 05 Heading structure inside rich text fields (multiple or missing H1s)
- 06 Open Graph fields per page versus the site-wide default
- 07 Sitemap auto-generation, indexed archive pages and 301 redirects after URL changes
- 08 Custom code and embed scripts (chat widgets, analytics) blocking render
Fix Pack · $149
How the Fix Pack works for Webflow
Fixes point at the exact Webflow surface: Page settings → SEO for titles and Open Graph, Collection template field bindings for dynamic titles, Project settings → Custom code for JSON-LD or deferring scripts, and the Designer for replacing background images with image elements. Snippets are HTML and JSON-LD ready to paste into the head or footer code boxes.
FAQ
Webflow questions, answered.
Can you audit a site that is still on a .webflow.io domain?
Yes, as long as it is published and public. The report will flag the staging domain in canonicals and Open Graph so you can fix it before launching on your custom domain.
Does Webflow let me fix the issues you find?
Almost all of them. Titles, descriptions, canonicals, alt text, headings and custom code are all editable. The few things Webflow controls (its hosting headers, the interactions bundle) are marked as such in the report.
Do you check every CMS item?
We crawl the pages linked from your navigation and content up to the product cap, which typically covers each collection template a few times. Since template issues repeat on every item, fixing the template fixes them all.
